We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated
Specialist, Communications to support corporate communications initiatives for the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury.
What You Will Do - Collaborate with the communications team to develop and execute earned media strategies to generate coverage for the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury’s off-court initiatives.
- Draft media materials including media briefs, talking points, advisories, and press releases.
- Work cross-functionally with marketing, corporate partnerships, ticket sales and service, and Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation teams to identify story opportunities.
- Manage speaking engagements; create executive briefs
- Proactively pitch stories to media and staff media interviews.
- Manage day-to-day media requests by coordinating interview availability and providing relevant background materials.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with local media.
- Monitor media and social media coverage and conversation.
- Create weekly and monthly media coverage recap reports.
- Maintain and update media contact lists and databases.
- Develop and oversee a calendar of appearances, events and announcements.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We Need From Our Specialist, Communications - Positive attitude
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people and develop strong relationships
- Able to multi-task under time constraints, meet deadlines and work within a fast-paced industry/environment; must be very detail oriented
- Excellent communications skills; an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays
- Must have basic understanding of Microsoft Office
Experience/ Education Requirements - Minimum of three years of public relations/communications experience.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism or public relations.

- Must be able to carry on a conversation both on the phone and in-person.
