We are seeking a resourceful and personable Office Technician (Typing) to carry out a variety of administrative functions within the Administrative Oversight Section (AOS), which provides administrative and clerical support to the Industrial Strategies Division. The division has primary responsibility within the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for: climate change, fuels, air toxics, energy, waste, and air district oversight. Along with other members of the AOS team, the selected candidate will provide organizational, logistical and administrative support for the division's five branches, and backup support for the Division Office and branches as needed. Duties will include: daily engagement with program and other support staff on a wide variety of tasks, including: scheduling meetings and workshops; maintaining electronic calendars; making travel arrangements and preparing travel expense claims; formatting and proofreading drafts and final copies of letters, memos, and reports; and organizing, creating and tracking a variety of assignments. Additional duties will include: organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files; screening and referring incoming calls from the public and other agencies; distributing incoming mail and sending correspondence; ordering and maintaining supplies; scanning documents and making copies; monitoring copier and printer functions; preparing other administrative forms and reports; and other duties as required. The Office Technician (Typing) will perform a variety of general office work and will be required to have particular in-depth knowledge regarding the branch policies and procedures.

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.
The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

Knowledge of: modern office methods, equipment, and procedures, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to: read and write English at a level required for successful job performance, including detailed proofing of written products for grammatical, spelling, and formatting errors; perform clerical and technical work; follow directions; evaluate situations accurately, and take effective action; learn and apply laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and policies; make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy; meet and deal tactfully with the public and co-workers, face-to-face, by telephone and by e-mail. The candidate will have a history of courteous conduct in the workplace, including dealing with challenging stakeholders and presenting themselves in a professional manner. Preferably able to move and carry office materials weighing up to 30 pounds short distances.
