GENERAL PURPOSE

The Furniture Builder - Casework & Assembly position is responsible for building and assembling high-end wood furniture pieces and case goods using hand tools and production equipment. This role works in a manufacturing setting at a standard rate of work based upon customer demand and lean manufacturing principles to satisfy the customer and to provide high quality products delivered in a timely manner. Required to learn additional functions through cross-training in other departments.

Essential Functions

Builds case furniture using hand tools (e.g., drills, screwdrivers, mallets, clamps) and basic shop equipment.

Ensures pieces are properly fitted, aligned, and secured.

Reads, understands, communicates, and interprets written and verbal instructions, work documentation, policies and practices.

Works overtime as needed.

Completes required paperwork correctly to ensure record accuracy.

Maintains a clean, safe working environment according to department safety guidelines.

Participates in improvement activities within current department or other departments as appropriate.

Performs a minimum of 75% of the jobs in the department at the required rate (cycle time).

Rotates through the department workstations based on business need.

Checks equipment and product as needed, reports problems or issues regarding safety or quality to department supervisor.

Regular and predictable attendance based on scheduled hours.

Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Education/Experience

One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency

Experience in woodworking, cabinetry, wood product assembly, and/or furniture manufacturing.

Skills And Abilities

Proficient with hand tools and basic power tools.

Familiar with measuring tools.

Competent in basic math skills such as counting, adding, and subtracting.

Ability to work cooperatively within the team as well as with members of other teams to meet goals.

Demonstrated willingness to adapt to a continually changing environment.

Required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms for the duration of the shift.

Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift and move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift and move up to 40 lbs.

Required to communicate and to be able to see with or without correction.
