Job Title: Corporate Counsel

Location: Chicago, IL - Remote/Hybrid

Job Overview

The Corporate Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor for the company, responsible for ensuring legal compliance while enabling business growth. This key role involves overseeing contract negotiation, managing regulatory compliance, and guiding business decisions to mitigate legal risks. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are integrated into daily operations, product offerings, and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, LOUs, and contract terminations.
  • Lead contract negotiations with customers, partners, and vendors, ensuring favorable terms while minimizing legal risk.
  • Ensure contracts align with operational goals, minimize liabilities, and protect company interests.
  • Stay current on legal and regulatory changes impacting the business (e.g., data privacy, accessibility, communication regulations).
  • Advise internal teams on legal compliance throughout business activities.
  • Prepare for regulatory audits and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Review and update product policies, terms of service, and privacy policies.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams on legal risks related to new features and updates.
  • Ensure online workflows, terms, and privacy statements meet legal standards.
  • Provide legal guidance to business leaders on key decisions to minimize risks.
  • Handle disputes and engage external counsel for litigation when necessary.
  • Partner with external law firms on specialized legal matters, managing costs and counsel.
  • Stay engaged with industry associations and regulatory bodies to remain ahead of legal trends.

  • JD from an accredited law school.

  • Deep understanding of data privacy, accessibility, and emerging tech regulations.
  • Ability to advise non-legal teams and executives, translating legal issues into business strategies.
  • Proven negotiation skills for high-stakes contracts.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing legal landscapes.
  • Outstanding communication skills to present legal concepts clearly.
