Section III: General Test

The General Test (501) question paper will contain questions from the following topics:


1. General Knowledge and Current Affairs

  • Questions will assess the candidate’s awareness of various current events, general facts, and general knowledge across a variety of topics.

2. General Mental Ability and Numerical Ability

  • Numerical Ability: Questions will test the candidate’s ability to solve problems involving basic mathematical concepts like:
    • Quantitative arithmetic
    • Algebra
    • Geometry
    • Mensuration
    • Statistics

3. Reasoning

  • Reasoning: Simple application of basic mathematical and logical concepts to assess the candidate’s reasoning skills.

4. Logical and Analytical Reasoning

  • Questions will assess the candidate’s logical and analytical thinking capabilities in solving problems.

Note:

  • The General Test (501) question paper will consist of 60 questions, out of which 50 questions must be attempted.

General Test (501) Syllabus for CUET UG 2025

The General Test (501) is designed to assess a candidate’s aptitude and reasoning abilities, general awareness, and general knowledge. The syllabus includes a broad range of topics that are essential for a student’s success in this section.

1. Quantitative Aptitude

  • Number Systems: Natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, real numbers, and their properties.
  • Arithmetic: Percentage, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, ratio and proportion, time and distance, time and work, speed and distance, averages, and partnerships.
  • Algebra: Polynomials, quadratic equations, simplification, and factorization.
  • Geometry: Properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, angles, and area and perimeter of different shapes.
  • Mensuration: Surface area and volume of 3D shapes like cubes, cylinders, cones, spheres, and their applications.
  • Data Interpretation: Reading and interpreting data from graphs, tables, bar charts, pie charts, and line charts.

2. General Awareness and General Knowledge

  • Current Affairs: National and international news, sports events, politics, and developments in the fields of science and technology, economics, business, and environmental issues.
  • Historical Events: Key events and their impact on history, freedom struggle, independence, and historical milestones in India and the world.
  • Geography: Important geographical features of India and the world, countries and capitals, rivers, mountains, and other landmarks.
  • Cultural Awareness: Knowledge of Indian culture, festivals, literature, art, music, and traditions.
  • Polity: Indian Constitution, major political events, political structure, and fundamental rights and duties.
  • Economics: Basic economic concepts, Indian economy, national income, inflation, government policies, and sustainable development.

3. Reasoning and Logical Ability

  • Verbal Reasoning: Analogy, classification, blood relations, directions, syllogism, and statements and conclusions.
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning: Mirror images, paper folding, figure classification, series, and puzzles.
  • Logical Deduction: Pattern recognition, identifying sequences and logical relationships, and statements based on facts.
  • Venn Diagrams: Representation of sets and their relationships, types of sets, and solving problems using Venn diagrams.
  • Coding and Decoding: Solving problems related to patterns in alphabets, numbers, and codes.

4. English Language

  • Reading Comprehension: Understanding passages and answering questions based on the context, tone, and content.
  • Sentence Structure: Identifying correct grammar, vocabulary, and sentence formation.
  • Synonyms and Antonyms: Vocabulary building through synonyms, antonyms, and word meanings.
  • Error Spotting: Identifying grammatical, syntactical, and contextual errors in sentences.
  • Fill in the Blanks: Completing sentences using the appropriate word or phrase.
  • Idioms and Phrases: Understanding and using common idioms and phrases in context.

5. Analytical Ability

  • Problem Solving: Logical reasoning through mathematical and non-mathematical problems.
